Looking for Volunteers!
Looking for Volunteers!
The Avenue of Flags program is the financial foundation of our Optimist Club that allows us to make the many donations and support our members in the service that we provide to the community and charitable needs. While this is a fund raiser that requires a lot of work by a lot of people, it is also a great service project in itself, demonstrating patriotism and supporting a key tenet of the Purposes of Optimists “To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people”. It is also one of our most visible service projects in the community.
This program has been a success because of the many Optimist volunteers and other helpers who dedicate their time and energy to it.
While we have been requested and would like to expand, we are limited by our volunteers to serve as neighborhood captains and the teams of people that actually put the flags and pick them up on the 6 flag holidays that we conduct.
Our first flag day of the new year (over 1100 flags) will be Memorial Day weekend (May 27-30).
We have several areas needing help this coming year, so PLEASE reach out to Mike Shappard mike.shappard@kimball.com (chairperson) or Kent Reyling pkreyling@outlook.com (marketing) if you are interested in helping.
We are also needing help in preparing the neighborhoods (distributing flyers, getting receptacles put in and marked for the year, making new flag poles and replacing flags.
This would be a great opportunity to help out your community!
